Being a Young Leader
When you join as a Young Leader, you’ll be introduced to lots of new activities, people and things.
Activities and what you’ll get up to
The Young Leaders’ Scheme is one of the exciting elements in the Explorer Scout section.
These young people are Explorer Scouts who choose to join the leadership team of a younger Scouting section – Scouts, Cubs, Beavers or Squirrels – to gain leadership skills and work alongside adult leaders.
All Young Leaders who are between the ages of 14 and 18 must be registered members of a Young Leader Unit. This may be in addition to their Explorer Unit.
The Young Leaders’ Scheme helps Explorer Scouts to develop and grow as individuals. It allows them to make a valuable contribution to their community and give service to others.
The scheme also helps them fulfil the service elements of their Top Awards (Platinum, Diamond, King’s Scout and Duke of Edinburgh).
The scheme
The Explorer Scout Young Leaders’ Scheme is the training programme for Young Leaders. It contains 11 modules and four missions for them to work through whilst volunteering in their chosen section. Modules give Young Leaders the skills and knowledge to be successful in their role, while missions allow them to put everything into practice with support.
Awards
Explorers start small but think big, always challenging themselves to do more and be more. It all starts with an award.
